Senior Cycle Students gathered together last Friday to celebrate the terrific achievements and successes of the past year. Ms Masterson opened the ceremony by paying tribute to a number of 5th Year students who have excelled in extra-curricular activities – both in and outside of school. Photos can be viewed here.

Subject Awards were then presented to students for showing terrific dedication and excellence in that subject area. Ms Masterson and Ms Lindsay presented students with the following awards;

The next awards presented were to students who embody our school spirit, who are a pleasure to teach and always work hard, also known as the Ad Astra Award;

Fifth Year: Fionn Dineen, Aoife Hughes, Cian Smart, Aisling Read, Matthew Power, Sean Ryan, Graham Doyle, Adam O’ Shea

Sixth Year: Sophie Curran, Cormac Burke, Andrew Grace, Sarah Williams, Alison Sheridan, Orla Cahill, Sophie O’Donoghue, Seán Lee, Jennifer Banayo, Cian Jinks, Ellen Dunne, Eve Moore, Julian Nolan, Mark McMahon, Emily Kinna, Kate Hanratty, Fintan O’Reilly, Robert Kelly, Ciara Gough.

 

Our Senior students this year were leaders not just in the classroom but also on the sporting field and in many other extra-curricular areas. The following students also received an Award;

Academic Awards were then announced. This seeks to reward students who have achieved academic excellence across their subjects. The nominees in fifth year were; Hannah Foley, Sarah Oliver, Carla Mc Carthy, Aisling Reidy, Lara Carroll, Hannah Tisdall with the overall Award going to Sarah Oliver.
The nominees in Sixth Year were Giorgia Tanner, Carl Pogue, Hannah MacArtain, Jennifer Banayo, Eve Moore and Sophie O’Donoghue with Giorgia Tanner winning the overall Award. Congratulations to each and every one of the nominees and award winners – as senior students they are role models for our younger students and we are very proud of their hard work and dedication to their studies.

 

Awards were then presented were for Student of the Year. In Fifth Year, there were six nominees with one overall winner. The Award seeks to recognise students who are school ambassadors, hard-working, polite, kind and respectful, a positive attitude to their schoolwork and a leader among their peers. As such, a nomination is special and students should be extremely proud of themselves. Congratulations to this year’s nominees; Jake O’Toole, Aisling Reidy, Nathan Byrne, Carla McCarthy, Sean Ryan and overall winner Matthew Power. We look forward to seeing these students lead the student body as Sixth Years in September.

 

Alas in Sixth Year, it is the last Award for our Graduating Class. They have been tremendous leaders in our school community and the nominees were extremely difficult. The nominees chosen illustrate the very best qualities of student; excellent work ethic, school ambassadors, positively contributed to school life, positive, kind and respectful, a pleasure to teach and a leader among their peers. Congratulations to this year’s nominees; Sean Lyons, Gabriel Akinwande, Alana Roarty, Mark McMahon and Andrew Thornton and overall winner Sinead Kearns!

The final Award presented was by Mr Creevey for the Principal’s Awards. His first Award was to Jake O’Toole for his excellent contribution to the school and his excellent work ethic and leadership. Mr Creevey’s second Award was to Elizabeth Akinwande for her outstanding achievements in writing this year and her phenomenal contribution to DCC. Congratulations to Jake and Elizabeth!
