It was another red letter day for our Transition Year students today who attended the annual graduation ceremony in the dining hall in Trinity College for students who attended the Bridge 21 programme during the year. This is a fabulous occasion and offers students the opportunity to meet up with friends they met from other schools throughout the year and to celebrate their great achievements on the Bridge 21 programme. This year twenty two students took up the offer of places at Bridge 21. All students did at least one week of the programme, but many were called back for a second week.

This occasion is a celebration of the achievements of the students in the beautiful surrounds of the dining hall. All students were awarded their certificates and then the special prizes were announced in five categories. There was an overall leadership award given to the student who showed great leadership qualities, empathy and collaboration qualities. This is chosen from the approximately 300 students who participate in the TY programme from schools all over Dublin. We were delighted that this medal was awarded to Hannah O’Neill.

Medals were also awarded for the best overall team, comprising four students each from a different school. Again DCC struck gold and Sadhbh Nevins received a medal as part of this team. The Computer Science Award was next. More success! Anna O’Reilly was part of the winning team in this category. Rory O’Brien was shortlisted in the Spirit of TY award and was unfortunate not to have medalled.

Congratulations to our winners and to all of our students who participated in the programme. It is a fantastic honour for the students to graduate from Trinity at the age of 16 and then to win so many awards. Well done to all students.
