C.P.R. Training for Junior Students

As you may be aware The Order Of Malta deliver  First Aid training and certification to our Transition Year students annually. This year they have very generously offered the school, training in C.P.R. for first, second and third years. This will involve a 15 minute training session with small groups of students and an Order of Malta facilitator. The sessions will run throughout the day on Wednesday 25th October.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our younger students and one for which we are truly grateful.

Below is a note from our friends in The Order of Malta to give some context to the event on Wednesday.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

To give you some background to our CPR Awareness Week. ‘Adam’s Gift’ is an awareness initiative supported by Order of Malta Ireland, with the aim of helping as many people as possible recognise the signs of cardiac arrest and to have the knowledge, training and confidence to offer their lifesaving skills if and when someone calls on their help.  We want to train more potential lifesavers to help save more lives.

13-year old Adam McAndrew, the son of Kerry an Order of Malta volunteer, died from sudden cardiac death. Despite her grief and heartbreak, Kerry began an initiative to make Adam’s classmates aware of CPR and the importance of early access to Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), emergency services and good quality CPR. Levels of CPR awareness are comparatively low in this country so Order of Malta Ireland is working with Kerry to amplify the message.

This year, the awareness week runs from the 21st-29th of October. Full details:http://www.orderofmaltaireland.org/adams-gift/
