On Wednesday the 23rd, current 6th class students and their parents were invited to Donabate Community College for an open night. It was a lovely bright evening and the atmosphere in the school matched that. The purpose of this open night was to introduce all of the eager, future students to their potential school, subjects and teachers.

The night started at 7pm with a welcoming speech from the Principal, Mr. Creevey. Afterwards the volunteer tour guides, mainly students, began to bring the families around the school. For most of the students it was their first time seeing the school and it was quite daunting. However they soon became relaxed with their surroundings exploring the school.

The different teachers in their varied classrooms held presentations to best show off their subject. Such as; Cookies baked in the Home Economics Room, a quiz for chocolate in the Irish Room and ping pong in the PE Area. Some of the subjects with a practical exam had students showing of their work, for example in the Art Room, clay models were made.
The families were keen to ask many questions about the future of their child and their subject choices. The teachers and students helped answer these queries and calm the parents about their worries.

Ending the night at 9pm, the families left with a better understanding for the school and their preferred subjects. The volunteer students and teachers were an immense credit to the school and it couldn’t have happened without them.
