On the bank holiday weekend May 1st to 2nd, 60 Transition Year and Fifth Year students participated in the Gaisce trip to earn their Bronze and Silver badges by completing a 25km hike.

The trip was organised by Mr Nagle who is in charge of Gaisce at DCC.
The trip included a guided tour of Newgrange beginning at Newgrange Lodge, along the River Boyne through the site of The Battle Of Boyne up to Drogheda. It was a good day and the weather was great with the sun shining from morning until evening.
We returned to Newgrange Lodge for dinner and afternoon activities to end the day. There were three birthdays while we were in Newgrange; Jack Kinsella, Shane Patterson and Hannah MacArtain, thanks to Mr. Nagle they all received birthday cakes!

We began the second day with a full breakfast provided by staff at the Lodge and then we set out on the remaining 5km of the hike. We walked from the Lodge to Newgrange and then returned home after a great trip. Fifth Year students stayed an extra night to earn their silver badges with Mr. Nagle, Ms. O’Moore and Mr Kelly staying to facilitate the extra time needed to complete the Silver Badge.

We would like to thank to Mr Nagle for organising the trip and to Ms Clery, Ms McArdle, Mr Kelly and Ms. O’Moore for giving up their bank holiday!
We would also like to thank our tour guide Terry, the staff at Newgrange Lodge for having us and for a great trip! We would definitely recommend it!
