The u16 and the u19 girls had fantastic successes recently. On the 9th of October, the u16s and the u19s played two brilliant matches between opposing teams from Fingal Community College.

The u16s league match was first. The starting five players for Donabate were Lisa McGrath, Ellen Hegarty, Orla Keeling, Aoife Walsh and Aoife Fennell. The first score of the match was made by Lisa McGrath shortly after the first whistle was blown. Donabate played an excellent man-to-man defence opting not to use a zone defence. They then continued to play a very good first quarter with their score at the end of this quarter being sixteen to Donabate and four to Fingal. Soon after the whistle blew for the second quarter, number twelve from the Fingal team got a basket.  Multiple travels were made by Donabate.

Donabate won all of the quarters with some terrific shooting. Ellen Hegarty was the top scorer from Donabate who played brilliantly and scored half of the overall points in the match. A lot of substitutions were made due to the commanding lead Donabate achieved, allowing for all of the players to get some time on the court. The third quarter began with the teams having scores of thirty four to Donabate and six to Fingal. Donabate players were repeatedly called on for travelling offences.

The Final quarter began with Donabate having forty-two points and Fingal having ten points. Beth Kirwan was the top scorer in this quarter. Everyone on the team played brilliantly and their hard work paid off with a final score of sixty to Donabate and fourteen to Fingal.

The u19s match however was only a friendly match, it was not a part of their league. Due to this and a lack of players on the Fingal team, they only played two eight minute quarters. The match began at five past twelve. Their starting five were Neamh Maguire, Ciara O’Loughlin, Rachel Burke, Lorna Fay and Madeline McCarthy. Neamh Maguire made the first basket shortly after the first whistle was blown. There was one substitution in this quarter and no time-outs were taken at all in the match. At the end of the quarter, the score was twelve points to Donabate, two points to Fingal.

The second quarter began and only one substitution was made. There were very few fouls in both the first quarter and the second quarter.  Madeline McCarthy made a very good assist allowing Neamh to score again in the second quarter, Madeline was also the top scorer in the match. It was evident that the team had worked very hard and the final score was twenty four points to Donabate and four points to Fingal.

Both teams played excellently and are looking forward to their next match.
