Congratulations to 5th Year student John Paul Fitzpatrick who won Gold recently in Smithfield Box Fest.
‘Smithfield Box Fest’, an intercultural boxing event, took place from Monday, 26th September to Saturday, 1st of October 2016 in Dublin City Council’s Aughrim Street Sports Centre in Smithfield.
The Festival, which is in its 7th year, was organised by Smithfield Amateur Boxing Club in conjunction with Dublin City Council and Irish Athletic Boxing Association. The Festival is about promoting cultural integration and demonstrating how the sport of boxing can be used to promote social inclusion.
John Paul took on Cavan’s Nathan Mongan in the 60kg Junior Final and in a tight tough battle edged out his opponent to get his hands on the Gold Medal. John Paul’s win was all the more impressive as his coach was late to the Sports Centre and he was left to warm up by himself!
