Mary Hanafin, Fianna Fáil politician and former Minister of Education, recently gave an inspiring talk to our 5th and 6th year girls, about empowering women in the work place. She shared some interesting anecdotes about her independent journey up through the Dáil.
Ms. Hanafin enlightened us with her many successes including meeting The Obamas at the Whitehouse, being just one of nineteen female Ministers in Irish history, and everything she achieved as Minister of Education.

Ms. Hanafin also spoke to us about resilience and not being afraid of failure, informing us about one of her biggest downfalls while running for election – getting no votes in one of her first campaigns. Despite this, Mary Hanafin continued to work hard to get to where she is today, proving to us that with self-belief and dedication anything is possible.
We would like to thank Mary Hanafin for visiting us, for giving a wonderful speech and opportunity for our senior girls.

Many thanks to Mr. Creevey for organising this and we look forward to the next speaker in the ‘Inspirational Women’ series.
