On 14th October the Board of Management of Donabate Community College met and they invited a group of TY students on the Journalism module to present to the board their intention to set up a website for Transition Year students. The website aims to publicise the kind of work that they do during the year and the variety of experiences both in school and outside of school that they enjoy during this transition from junior to senior cycle. Students are also working on ways to include the wider community in their website.

We (Rebecca Caffrey and Louise Evans) were asked to present a PowerPoint and the unpublished website to the Board at their meeting in the school. We informed them about all the ways in which work is being shown and how the website allows pupils to express themselves in a positive and creative way. We also showed them the content we will be putting up. Luke Rock, who is working on setting up the website and the technical aspects of the site, explained how the website functions and also some of the work that has already been put up.

The next day, we were informed that we had been given the approval to go ahead with publishing the website. We were all delighted with the outcome and their positive feedback.  It was a nerve-wracking experience to make the presentation but we are very pleased that we can now go ahead and make our website live.

We are working on the finishing touches to the site and hope to have it ready to publish in early November. The site will offer an insight into the TY programme in our school and the many and varied activities we participate in both inside and outside school. We also are engaging with senior citizens and with sports clubs locally with match reports and interviews. The website will have dynamic and changing content throughout the year and we will keep you informed of our ‘Go Live’ date.
