The North Leinster Schools’ Athletics Track and Field competition of 2016 marked itself as Donabate Community College’s most successful year to date as our athletes accumulated an outstanding total of ten medals last week.

The calm, sunny weather proved to be on our side as our school dominated the hammer throw cage in every age category. Our junior thrower, Aisling Read, claimed the first medal of the competition with gold, as Beth Kirwan followed suit with a silver medal in the intermediate girls’ category. The Read’s continued to prosper as Aisling’s sister, Clodagh, threw her way to second place in senior girls’ hammer. Iain Darroch secured yet another medal for the school, winning the senior boy’s hammer.

Our seniors kept up their winning streak out on the track with Maria Carr, Clodagh Martin and Bernard Hollands all winning medals in their hurdling competitions. Donabate continued jumping to success as Andrea Hannigan and Lara Brown succeeded in long jump and Eilis Darby earned a silver medal in the 1500 metre steeplechase.

A massive well done to all students who competed and best of luck to those athletes advancing to the Leinster Schools’ competition on May 11th;

Iain Darroch – Hammer
