Our fourth Annual Sunrise Walk took place on Friday 24th of January. Students, teachers, parents and pets gathered in the Main Hall and collected hi-vis vests and glow sticks. There was a warm welcome for the annual walk after poor weather had called it off last year.

As has become tradition, we started the walk at DCC and made the familiar trek through the village to the beautiful Newbridge House. Once we arrived, we gathered on the steps for our yearly group picture. As it was still dark, Ms.Clery asked all students to turn on their flashlights ‘to create our own light in times of darkness’. The resulting photograph a powerful one.

Our Annual Walk was a great opportunity for our school community to come together as one and an important reminder to our exam students to take a break and get some fresh air and exercise. With mocks starting this coming week, we wish them all the very best of luck.

With beautifully mild weather, we had our biggest turnout with over 220 students taking part! A big thank you to all staff, TY students and members of the Headstrong committee who helped steward the walk and a special thank you to Ms. McGrotty, Ms.Orohoe, Mr.O’Briain for coordinating!

Unfortunately this year we didn’t have the help of Ms. Cleary who originally established the sunrise walk as she is currently in Cambodia. However, Ms. McGrotty passed on Ms Cleary’s well wishes to all participating.

Once back in DCC, students were treated to breakfast before heading off to class; energised and ready for a day’s learning!

DCC remind all students that it’s ok to not be ok and that it is good to talk!
