Sailing Update!

Recently the 42nd All Ireland  Inter School Regatta sailing competition took place in Sutton Dinghy Club, Co.Dublin. This competition had multiple sailors from different schools all over Ireland competing and representing their schools. We are delighted to announce that our school competed for the first time ever in this race.

The sailors who represented our school were; Adam Barker (Transition Year), Shane Barker (3rd year), Darragh Brett (2nd year) and Conor McClean (2nd year). The races were scheduled for Saturday afternoon but due to high winds it was moved to Sunday afternoon. Coincidentally, Sunday had very low winds which delayed all the races! This shows how the weather is a big factor of sailing.

The organisers could only fit in one race on Sunday  with a mixed fleet with 86 competitors  and it did not start until 3 o’clock. The race had 62 boats altogether and it lasted about 45 minutes. The racers had a very hectic day being at the club at 9 o’clock in the morning  for preparation. As the races were delayed it was a very long and draining day but they didn’t let this stop them. Donabate Community College students put on an amazing display for their first time representing our school in this competition and we are very proud of our competitors. In particular, we congratulate Shane Barker who received the Sailability Award, who sailed with his crew Conor McClean.

Well done to the competitors that represented our school with respect and honour.
