The senior ladies hockey team started off their season against Muckross at home last week. The game started off strongly for Donabate, taking the first shot of the game which went narrowly wide. Things started to go downhill for the girls when the opposition began to dominate early in the game with fast attacks starting from their back line. The deadlock was broken early with a great shot from their striker that zipped past Erin McGahan in the Donabate goal. Shortly after, Muckross got their second of the game which brought the visitors into the half 2-0 up.

The home team upped their game greatly in the second half and started creating chances with Hannah Moynihan making skillful runs from the wing. Their defence was solid in the second half denying Muckross any chance of a third with some inspirational tackles from Caoimhe McGill. The seniors were unlucky not to score being the better team in the second half and the game finished 2-0 to Muckross. Ms.Orohoe was happy with her team’s performance and gave Hannah Moynihan the accolade of player of the game. Being only the school’s second season of hockey this was a great achievement to play so well against a well established hockey school and we wish our team well for the rest of the season.

Donabate Community College team: Andrea Hannigan, Anna O’Reilly, Aoife Conlan, Caoimhe McGill, Erin McGahan, Fionnuala Laughey, Hannah Moynihan, Isobel O’Dea.
