‘English Week’ recently took place in Donabate Community College. Students took part in table quizzes, a variety of competitions, book clubs at lunch time and films were shown after school. A group of second years performed a production of ‘Sherlock Holmes and the Aquilla Diamond’ directed by Ms. Lowry and Ms. Clery. After a lot of hard work, the actors took to the stage with great spirit and accomplishment.

Charlie Harris took the lead role of Sherlock Holmes with Khalid Kamil as his trusty and hilarious sidekick, Dr. Watson. Maria Carr played the glamorous Lady Aquilla, while Nicolas Culligan and ColmDowling made the audience laugh with their comedic performances as the Director and the Narrator respectively. The play had an exciting twist at the end as Holmes discovered that the chef ‘Cookie’, played by Darragh Nolan, had killed the butler played by Liam Leonard.  Sound effects and music were provided by Luke Rock and stage hands Louise Evans, Leo Walsh, Karen Adamalekun and Aoibheann Kelly gave great assistance. Students received a standing ovation for their performances and we look forward to seeing the group’s next production!
