Sports Science Project

Transition Year students, Lara Browne and Katelyn Knight are studying Sports Development and Coaching as a TY module. In this module the students are getting the opportunity to participate in the annual Theory of Physical Education Exhibition (EXPO) hosted in DCU. This is a one-day exhibition of projects created by students with PE as the theme, in much the same manner as the BT Young Scientist. Over 150 projects will be on display from schools all over the country.

The aim of their project is to assess what causes teenage girls to stop participating in PE in our school when they reach Senior Cycle compared to teenage boys and junior girls. To conduct this project, the girls need to carry out surveys with all of the students in Donabate Community College. By the end of their research and gathering their data that the girls are hopeful that they will be able to reach a conclusion as to why girls stop participating in PE and try make a change and encourage everyone to participate.

Lara and Katelyn will be going around to the PE classes in the coming weeks to conduct their survey. The data collected will be compiled and shown as statistics in DCU. The survey is anonymous however, if you wish for your child to not do the survey then please write a note in their journal as soon as possible.
