Student Council Message: Be Safe Online

7th February 2018

Latest News

Yesterday was Safer Internet Day in Ireland and across the world.

Students in 5th year of the school watched a video of a young girl talking about how teenagers do not think before they type and how what you say online affects others around them.

The members of our Student Council explained the importance of using the internet responsibly and how to be safer online.

A school selfie was taken with the 1st, 2nd & Transition Years while our 5th year classes came up with advice for younger students on how they could be safer when online. The following is a list of just some of what they came up with.

*Avoid people you don’t know when online

*Turn off location services

*Don’t add people you don’t know

*Online is permanent! If you put something online it stays there forever

*Don’t share your passwords with others

*Don’t photograph people without their permission

*Don’t post anything that you wouldn’t want your Granny to see

*Always log off public computers

*Save offensive posts as evidence

*Don’t put your personal details online (address, bank details, phone number )

*Ignore spam/pop ups (you probably have not won the lottery)

Thanks to the Student Council and in particular Fintan O’Reilly, Jamie Doyle and Michael Gozie.
