Third Year students gathered together with their tutors and Year Head Ms Curran to celebrate reaching the end of their Junior Cycle. Students were treated to breakfast and ice creams before individual awards were presented. Students got the opportunity to chat with their classmates and teachers after an excellent year in DCC.

Students were commended for not only their attention to their studies but also their engagement in extracurricular activities and contribution to the school.

Subject Awards were presented to the following students for excellence attained in that subject area:

Literary Award for English – Gemma Roche
Science Award – Ella O’Neill
Business Award – Adam Roche
French Award – Gemma Roche
Spanish Award – Charlotte Garcia
Gradam na Gaeilge – Ciara Stell
Technology Award – Luke Gaffney
Maths Award – David Oliver
Geography Award – Lee Byrne
Home Economics Award – Isobel Sutton
PE Award – Emer Bishop, Sean Darcy
History Award – David Oliver
Art Award – Jessica Hand, Chloe Williams

Students were also presented with Awards to mark their contribution to the school and to extra-curricular activities;

Irish Debating – Ciara Stell, Ella O’Neill, David Oliver
Maths Club – Luke Michael
Headstrong Committee – Oisín McGillicuddy
Student Council – Carla Crosbie, Sean Darcy

A large number of students were presented with a certificate to mark the huge effort they make in their studies. They are leaders in their peer group and contribute to class really well.

The next awards presented were to students who embody our school spirit, who are a pleasure to teach and always work hard, also known as the Ad Astra Award;

Awards were then presented were for Student of the Year. In Third Year, there were five nominees with one overall winner. The Award seeks to recognise students who are school ambassadors, hard-working, polite, kind and respectful, a positive attitude to their schoolwork and a leader among their peers. As such, a nomination is special and students should be extremely proud of themselves. Well done to this year’s nominees; Isobel Sutton, Ciara Grace, Aileen Hempton and Sarah Keon. Congratulations to the Overall Student of the Year, Gemma Roche. We are extremely proud of you all!

 

A big thank you to Ms Curran for all her hard work and dedication to our Junior Cycle students. A big thank you also to Third Year tutors; Ms Kearns, Ms Molloy, Ms Fitzpatrick, Ms Cleary and Mr O’Briain for their hard work and support of our students!

For our Third Years, they now face into their Junior Cycle exams and we know they will do their very best. We are extremely proud of all you have achieved so far and look forward to continuing your journey in Senior Cycle.
