Transition Years Attend Drugs.ie Launch

14th October 2016

Latest News

On the third of October 2016, two of our transition year classes, McAleese and Geldof visited Dublin City Hall to see the launch of drugs.ie‘s third annual media competition.

Drugs.ie is an organisation in connection with the HSE, which has been providing help, support and information about alcohol and drug use since 1997.

Posters, videos and even a live performance from Little Red, all past winners of the competition, were on show. Students enjoyed seeing the work as it showed ‘what we need to do to win.’ Speakers reminded us on the importance of talking about drugs, and encouraged us to participate in the competition. 2FM’s Blathnaid Treacy officially opened the 2017 competition. Students were invited to write their thoughts on drugs on two speech bubbles, and pictures of these were later posted on social media. Meanwhile, we got a chance to have a closer look at the beautiful posters on display.

All students are encouraged to enter the competition, to be in with a chance to win a fantastic prize of €2,000 or an iPad Mini. Several groups of students, especially from McAleese, are entering the competition. Videos, news articles or posters about why young people use drugs or what impact alcohol has on relationships can be submitted. The deadline is the 1st February 2017.
