On Friday 9th of March Ms Cleary’s TY Computer class had the opportunity to visit the Google Offices in Grand Canal Dock. We were excited to have the chance to see what it was like inside one of the biggest technology companies in the world.

When we arrived we were welcomed by a brightly coloured reception area. The office had a real funky feel to it with bright colours throughout. The tour started with a short presentation about Google. This was delivered by Don, a sales and marketing employee. He shared with us his experience of working for Google over the last 5 years. We were surprised to learn about all the different perks that Google employees have particularly the chance to be able to bring your dog to work with you.

Don explained to us how Google started from a small garage in California to now have over 70,000 employees worldwide. We learned that the second biggest search engine in the world is YouTube. We played a fun interactive game with Don where we had to guess the most searched items of 2017. We were surprised to learn that Pokemon Go was searched more times than Brexit!

The presentation was followed by a tour around the Google Office. We saw Googlers at work on the office floor and the outdoor balcony area which gave us a great view of Dublin City. The tour concluded with students getting a chance to see The Foundry where Google hosts conferences as well as a trip to the Google Souvenir shop. The visit to the Google Office was a great success as we got to get a real insight into what it would be like to work in a technology company like Google. Thanks to Ms. Cleary and Ms. Sheehan for accompanying us.
