Donabate CC – 6
St Oliver’s Drogheda – 3
Last Tuesday, DCC took on St Olivers, Drogheda in the U17s league quarter final down in Ballymastone and DCC came out on top 6-3, qualifying for the League semi-finals.
DCC started the game off well with chances that kept on coming but they were just unable to find the back of the net. In around the 20th minute the St Oliver’s goalkeeper put a ball over the top and their striker just caught the end of it and it went in.
Soon after DCC got a free kick in a dangerous spot. Sean McCormack stepped up to take it, he put the ball into the box and Hugh Martin got his head on it and it found the back of the net. Soon after DCC were on the attack again. Sean McCormack chipped the ball over the defence, to Lucas O’Dowd. He squared it to Hugh Martin and Martin put it into the back of the net. It was 2-1 going into the break.
DCC came out into the second half strong, but after many missed chances, St Olivers scored two quick goals putting them 3-2 up, against the run of play. The away team held onto to their lead until the final ten minutes. DCC did not concede and created chance after chance. They were rewarded for their efforts when Liam Murray and Hugh Martin combined to get DCC level. DCC then kicked on and Hugh Martin scored another 2 goals, firing one into the top corner, minutes later Hugh played in Liam to slot the ball home to finish the game off. The final whistle blew and DCC won 6-3.
DCC now await details on their semi-final opponents. Thanks to Mr Hopkins for looking after the team.
