De La Salle Dundalk 3-12
DCC’s Senior Boys’ GAA team marked the school’s return to team sports with a winning start against De La Salle, Dundalk. Adam Conroy hit a hat trick for DCC as they eased to an opening win.
It was a tough opening half for DCC as Dundalk put up a good performance but with a goal from Adam Conroy, the game went more in DCC’s favour. DCC kept the lead for fifteen minutes, but just before the half time whistle Dundalk hit back with 1-4 putting them into a four point advantage at the break.
Trailing by four points at the break, DCC knew they had to make a change. Billy Stanbridge came on scoring 1-1, making an instant impact on the game. This set the tone for the rest of the half. As the game went on DCC began to turn the screw.
After many tries, Brian Collins secured his point from a ’45 with it gliding over the bar. As the clock ticked away, Dundalk won a free kick on the 14 metre line which lead to a goal. DCC didn’t panic and quickly responded with a goal from Ryan Byrne to extend their lead. and brought it up to the final whistle with DCC winning 6-7 to 3-12 giving them an excellent start to the league.
Big thanks to Mr O’Meara, Mr Hopkins and TY students for umpiring the game.
