The Week in Sport – 20–24 April

It was another busy and eventful week of sport, with eight fixtures taking place across a range of competitions, bringing a mix of strong performances, narrow defeats and notable successes.

Monday saw two semi-final defeats. Our U14 LGFA team were beaten by a strong Coláiste Ghlór na Mara side, bringing their campaign to an end. On the boys’ side, our senior footballers also exited Leinster at the semi-final stage following a 1–5 defeat to Marian College. It was a particularly tight contest, with the score standing at 1–2 with just five minutes remaining. Despite registering 15 shots on goal, DCC were unable to convert enough chances to overturn the deficit.

Tuesday brought further challenges, as our rugby team were defeated by Swords in a challenge match held in ALSAA. Our tennis team were also in action but unfortunately came out on the losing side.

Wednesday provided a more positive and meaningful occasion, as the school participated in the memorial tournament held in Clonturk Community College in honour of the late Kerrie Whelan. It was a special day both on and off the pitch, and fittingly, DCC emerged as tournament winners.

Thursday delivered a major highlight of the week, as our senior hurlers booked their place in a county final with an impressive 3–16 to 2–10 victory over Pobalscoil Neasáin. The game remained closely contested up to the final ten minutes, before DCC pushed on to secure a well-deserved win.

There was also action on the tennis courts, where our junior team were beaten by St Conleth’s College. Despite the result, there was high praise for a very promising young team, with Thomas Malone in particular delivering a standout performance.

Friday’s tennis result will be included once confirmed.

Overall, it was a week that combined competitive spirit with moments of real achievement, particularly with the senior hurlers’ progression to a county final and the success in Wednesday’s memorial tournament.
