Wet Wednesday, Busy Friday and Plenty of Effort on Show
After a break of action on Monday, a postponment on Tuesday, and an Oide Day on Thursday, it was Wednesday and Friday that saw all of the action last week.
Wednesday afternoon brought plenty of action – and even more rain – as our senior footballers ran out 7–3 winners in a thoroughly entertaining contest that will be remembered as much for the weather as the scoreline.
In conditions better suited to water polo, the lads kept their composure and their passing sharp. Ewan was the standout performer on the day, finishing with two well-taken goals and setting up another. He was well supported by goals from Liam, Jake, Jack and Stanley, while a slice of misfortune for the opposition defence added an own goal to the scoreboard.
The relentless rain quickly became the main talking point on the sidelines. Rumour has it that Mr Hopkins is still drying out his boots after braving the conditions from start to finish.
Earlier on Wednesday, there was disappointment for the hockey team, who were narrowly beaten 1–0 by Drogheda Grammar. It was a tight contest throughout, with plenty of effort and organisation on display, but one goal proved enough to decide the game.
After a weather-enforced pause with the school closed on Thursday, attention turned to Friday and another busy day of sport. Over 35 students represented the school at the North Leinster Cross Country qualifiers in the Phoenix Park. It was a very strong showing across all races, with plenty of determined runs in a competitive field. Unfortunately, there were no qualifiers on the day, but the commitment and effort shown by all involved was excellent.
There was better news on the soccer pitch, where the girls’ minor soccer team recorded a convincing win, continuing a positive run and showing great teamwork and confidence throughout.
All in all, a packed few days of sport, marked by effort, resilience, and the occasional battle with the elements.
Please see the photo attached, that was posted across our social media platforms on Friday, of the details of the matches this week. (includes an already postponed junior hurling fixture).
