Following the midterm break, school sport resumed at full pace with six fixtures taking place across the week, including several important knockout ties.

On Monday, our senior hurlers secured their place in the championship semi-final after a hard-fought victory over Hartstown Community School in Abbotstown. The fixture had been postponed earlier in the term due to the senior footballers’ progression in both Dublin and Leinster competitions.

DCC made an outstanding start, racing into a 2-3 to 0-0 lead inside the opening ten minutes thanks to early scores from Aidan Walsh and Cian Darcy. Hartstown responded well and reduced the deficit before half-time, with their number 11 particularly influential. However, our side regained control in the second half. Aidan Walsh completed an excellent hat-trick of goals, with additional contributions from Conor Heffernan and substitute Liam Murray — who made a memorable impact by adding a point after entering the field in school PE gear. The final score of 3-9 to 1-10 confirmed a deserved semi-final berth.

Also on Monday, our junior girls footballers progressed to a Leinster Shield semi-final following an impressive 4-1 away win over Loreto College Crumlin. Niamh Zaidan was in outstanding form, scoring three goals, while Hannah O’Donoghue and Lily Caswell delivered strong all-round performances.

There were no fixtures on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, our first-year boys footballers were narrowly defeated 0-2 at home by Ratoath College, bringing their shield campaign to an end at the quarter-final stage. Despite the result, there were encouraging displays from Calum Luncy and Harry Reilly.

Thursday proved another busy day. Two squads travelled to the SETU Carlow 7-a-side competition hosted by South East Technological University Carlow. One team reached the Cup quarter-final after a strong group-stage showing, while the second side advanced to the Shield quarter-final. Liam Murray finished as the school’s top scorer on the day with 13 goals, with Harry O’Mahony leading the scoring for the second team. With over 20 players involved, the tournament provided valuable experience and competitive action.

Also on Thursday, our U14 girls Gaelic footballers marked their first ever match representing the school with a comprehensive victory in Ballymastone against Skerries. It was a significant milestone for the group and an excellent beginning to their involvement in school competition.

On Friday, our senior girls were beaten 0-3 at home in Ballymastone by a strong St Vincent’s Secondary School Dundalk side. Details of the fixture were received late on Friday from the players, and a fuller match report will follow from our TY Journalism team in due course. Hard luck to the squad on this occasion.

Overall, it has been a busy and competitive return to action following the midterm break, with notable progression in both hurling and girls’ football competitions.
