The final week of January was a stop-start one for school sport, with the weather and a busy fixture list making for a mixed few days.

Monday saw a junior hurling game postponed due to poor conditions. There was action on the football pitch, however, where our first-year boys footballers suffered a 3–0 defeat in a challenging match.

Tuesday brought further disruption, as a yellow wind and rain warning led to two more cancellations. Both the first-year Gaelic footballers and the minor girls’ soccer fixture were called off.

There was just one game on Wednesday, but it proved an interesting one. Our first-year boys footballers steadied the ship after Monday’s loss with a hard-fought 0–0 draw in what has quickly become known as a “Mr Murphy Classic.”
Fun fact: there had never been a 0–0 draw in a school football match before Mr Murphy’s arrival in 2022 — this was his second scoreless draw. #ParkTheBus

Thursday brought heartbreak for our senior Gaelic footballers. The history-making Dublin champions bowed out of Leinster after a narrow one-point defeat to Gorey CS, with the final score reading 1–08 to 0–10. A hugely competitive game that could have gone either way.

Friday saw two away trips and two tough results. Our junior Gaelic footballers were beaten in Celbridge by Salesians, while our U15 footballers were edged out 1–0 in Ashbourne after a close contest.

Despite the mixed results, there was no shortage of effort across the week, with teams continuing to represent the school with commitment in difficult conditions.

There are no fixtures this week. Fixtures for next week will be posted on our Instagram and Facebook pages on Friday.
