Donabate CC – 5
Ardscoil Chiaráin Naofa – 2
Last Tuesday our TY boys football team took on Ardscoil Chiaráin Naofa school in a thrilling shield quarter final, with a semi final place the reward for the victors.
The game started off very evenly with both teams attacking fiercely. In the 7th minute, DCC won a corner after a good save from the keeper. Liamo whipped in the corner which led to an own goal by the home defender giving DCC the lead. Not too long after, Sam Kealy ran down the wing, cutting the ball back to Aidan who buried the ball in the back of the net, then doing a very unique celebration.
Despite a foul, Ardscoil Chiaráin Naofa’s right winger ran down the wing and finished well. The first half ended with the score 2-1 in DCC’s favour.
DCC started the second half very strongly with Jack netting a well taken goal five minutes in. The frenzied pace of the game eased with both teams eager to continuing attacking. Mr Hopkins then brought on the super sub Conor Donovan and with his first touch, he stuck the ball in the back of the net. Not even a minute later, Jake responds with another well taken goal to make the score 5-1 to DCC! As the game was coming to a close, Ardscoil Chiaráin Naofa got another goal from a free kick.
The final score was 5-2 to DCC. A great performance from the lads. They now look forward to a semi final!
Thanks to Mr Hopkins and Mr Tully for looking after the team!
