Thomas Crone and Cillian Brett give recommendations to new coming and future TYs.

How did you find the WorldSkills event?

Thomas: “Amazing. Yeah, no, it was really good. You got to see loads of different apprenticeships, lots of different styles, and you get to get a lot of freebies and leaflets, it was great.”

And what did you learn at the WorldSkills event?

Thomas: “You learnt to drive, how to weld, cook…”

Cillian: “Yeah, there was a driver, welder, chef, yeah, there was loads of different stuff there. It’s great for anyone.”

Did it help you to realise what subjects you wanted to do?

Cillian: “Well, I’m not fully sure yet but there was definitely lots of options and it was good guidance.”

Thomas: “Yeah, there was absolutely good guidance.”

How do you feel about getting closer to Leaving Cert?

Thomas: “I can’t wait.”

Cillian: “No, I’m excited. I wouldn’t say to leave school, but I’m getting excited to finishing school. But I am devastated to leave.”

Thomas: “So devastated to leave. Yeah, it’s so, so sad to leave. Wish we could stay forever.”

Would you recommend TY to the students who will finish the Junior Cycle next year?

Thomas: “Yes, definitely. Because you’re not in any rush to go to school. It’s a great break to have after Junior Cert.”

Cillian: “And you learn a lot as well. Yeah, definitely do TY. Take the year off.”

Do you have any advice for TY students entering fifth year?

Thomas: “Just be ready for work.”
