Our Lady’s Greenhills – 2

Commiserations to the first girls soccer team who were defeated after a mammoth battle with Our Lady’s Greenhills of Drogheda last Friday in their League final.

The game kicked off and both sides struggled for possession until Our Ladys’ Greenhills got a break 15 minutes into the first half and scored a goal against DCC. That only ignited the DCC attack and they fought even harder to win the match. Even with the girls trying their best, they weren’t able to get a goal back in the first half.

At the start of the second half, both teams came out strong going back and forth until the combination of the midfield and strikers managed the pass the ball around Drogheda’s defence and Saoirse Bissett scored an equaliser to make the game 1-1. After the equaliser, both teams tried to dominate possession, and both got very close to scoring multiple times but neither succeeded causing the game to go into thirty mins of extra time.

After a short break, both teams go into extra time determined to win. Roughly 5 minutes into extra time, Drogheda got a lucky break and managed to make it past the defence of DCC and scored. DCC tried their best to bring it back and win but were unfortunately unable to equalise and the game finished 2-1 to Our Lady’s Greenhills.

Hard luck to the team. Thanks to TY students Aoife Garvey and Abi Fogarty for their wonderful coaching this year. Thanks to Ms Fennell for all her work with the team!
