Last Monday, Lía Bracken, Sophie O`Neill, Sophie Last Monday, Lía Bracken, Sophie O`Neill, Sophie Byrne, Moya Bishop, and Ava Pender of the DCC English Debating Team won their debate against Hansfield Educate Together. After winning their last three debates in the knockout stage and now the round of 64, they are through to the of 32. DCC entered the Concern debates last year, however this is the farthest they have gotten in the competition, a huge achievement for the team!
In their debate against Hansfield ET, the DCC team proposed the motion, “The SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are a waste of time.” They had well thought-out points and held an extraordinarily strong debate. Ava Pender had some brilliant rebuttals and there was great time keeping from Sophie Byrne.
Their next debate will be held next week, and they will be debating against St. Mary`s Secondary School in Charleville, Co Cork. They are for the motion, “Groups like `Just Stop Oil` should follow extinction rebellions lead and give up on destructive action.”
We wish the Debating team good luck and hopefully they can progress to the next round!

On Wednesday, the minor girls football team made it two wins from two as they defeated St Mac Dara’s Tempelogue by 5 goals to 1!
On Thursday, there were mixed fortunes for our hockey and basketball teams. While our Senior boys basketball suffered an agonising ten point defeat to Ardscoil Rathangan in their All Ireland series, the senior girls hockey team were 4-0 winners against Lucan CC!
This afternoon our boys u16 team got their first run out of the season and in a thoroughly entertaining battle against Malahide CS, DCC unfortunately slipped to a two point defeat on a 2-08 to 1-09 scoreline despite leading for much of the contest.
We are so proud to have so many sporting teams this season, with so many students donning their school colours and developing their talents on the sporting fields!
Many thanks to all the staff members who dedicate their time to look after these teams!
