The Hub
The Hub
Donabate Community College has a coeducational ASD Centre called The Hub. The autism centre was renamed The Hub in 2019. The new name was chosen as it reflects the sense of inclusivity and integration that will be experienced by all the students who will be involved in The Hub. The Hub caters for students with Autism and offers a specific learning environment within a mainstream post primary school setting. The Hub aims to assist students to develop socially and educationally to the maximum of their potential, in a stimulating and relaxed environment with a focus on assisting students with ASD to leave school with the skills necessary to participate, to the best of their ability, in an inclusive way in society and to live independent and fulfilled lives. The Hub is a student centred setting which enables optimum inclusion and supports students to feel part of the whole school community by facilitating access to mainstream educational activities that are available and that are deemed appropriate to the ongoing education of the student.
Philosophy
The philosophy in The Hub is underpinned by the model of educational inclusion such that students with specialised needs should receive their education within the most supportive environment with a focus on realising the full potential of each individual student. The ASD programme in Donabate Community college will develop the students’ life skills and prepare them for life after school in an ever-evolving model of best practice. Donabate Community College is committed to supporting and celebrating our students who are on the autism spectrum. We strive to provide an environment that supports our students to participate fully in all aspects of school life by adapting the environment and raising awareness and acceptance.
