Junior Girls Semi Final Victory

Hat tricks from Lucy Davison and Isabel Hetherton helped DCC to a 10-3 win, booking their place in the League Final!
DCC’s Girls soccer team took on St Olivers Dundalk in their League Semi final at home. Tip off was at a delayed time of 12:10. Carlie Sinott started the game brightly for DCC taking a shot in the 7th minute but it went narrowly wide. Dundalk were looking for an early goal and they succeded in that on the 9th minute. Searching for a comeback, Lucy Davison scored a great goal to make the score 1-1. Isabel Hetherton scored in the 13th minute and DCC took the lead.
Lucy Davison found the net for the second time 26th minute to make the score 3-1. Dundalk were not giving up and their frequent attacks put the DCC defence under pressure but Lucy Caswell made great tackles and blocks to maintain DCC’s advantage. As the first half came to a close, St. Oliver’s narrowed the gap with a great goal. DCC dominated the first half with great play from Lucy Davison and Carlie Sinnott to keep the ball high on the pitch. The first half ended with DCC 3-2 in front.
As the second half got underway, DCC got off to the perfect start when Carlie Sinnott hit the net in the 40th minute. Constantly a danger, Lucy Davison grabbed her hat trick a minute later, leaving the score 5-2 to DCC.
With those on the sideline starting to get excited, Carlie went on the attack and took a cracking shot. The keepers gloves touched the ball but it wasn’t enough and the ball went into the net. Alannah Geoghegan got an assist from Kelsey Clifford and put the ball straight into the bottom right corner.
With the score now 7-2, Dundalk were still fighting. A sweeping attacking move downfield was finished by a stinging effort and unfortunately Abi couldn’t get her hands on it, the score 7-3. This gave St. Oliver’s hope and while they had several more chances, Abi Fogarty made some great saves to keep DCC ahead. Lucy Hetherton hit the net twice more for her hatrick while Lucy Dunne got the last goal of the match to send DCC into the final with a 10-3 win.
