Latest News

Thank you to all who attended our AGM on November 9th.

We are very grateful to Ms Whelan for her presentation on the work of the guidance department – we were delighted to hear about the excellent work being done in the school to support our young people’s well being. You can find out more on the Donabate Community College Facebook page launched recently by the TY journalism team.

The School and Parents’ Council are hosting a Mental Health Awareness evening for all parents/guardians in our wider community on Tuesday 22nd November at 7:30pm.

We will have speakers on the night from Reach Out Ireland, including one of our 6th year students James Kirwan who is a youth ambassador for Reach Out. James will speak to parents on the issue of teen mental health from the teen’s point of view.

ReachOut.com supports those going through a tough time with emphasis placed on peer support and the principle that we all know someone going through a tough time. They engage in a space natural to most of us now – online.

We will also have a talk from Dr Harry Barry entitled “Flagging The Screenager”

Dr Barry’s best selling book outlines the challenges faced by young people in today’s fast-paced, technology-saturated world, and provide advice on dealing with these challenges. Discussing everything from low mood and depression to peer pressure and cyber-bullying.

There will be a Q&A session following the talk and refreshments available.

This is a free talk for all members of our community. There will be a donation box to support the work of Reach Out Ireland for those who wish to do so.

Save The Date – Monday 16th January 7pm

There will be a talk for all parents/guardians on Study Skills from Student Enrichment Services. This is for all parents/guardians to support their students in studying, and will be of particular interest to those with young people preparing for mocks in February.
