A huge congratulations to Class of 2022 student Darragh Brett, who has been awarded a Medal for Excellence at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026!
What is WorldSkills?
WorldSkills is one of the world’s largest competitions celebrating vocational and technical skills, bringing together over 1,400 young skilled professionals from 68 countries and regions, competing across 64 different skills. To receive a Medal for Excellence is a fantastic achievement, recognising competitors who reach a world-class standard in their chosen skill.
Darragh competed with 20 joiners from around the world to make a wooden staircase that won him the recognition. In an interview with independent.ie, he stated his love for his trade, and the compeition:
“I’ve just always liked working with my hands and making things, It was such a great opportunity to be able to go to Shanghai and represent Ireland on such a big platform. It was 10 times the size of the RDS and we got the opportunity to meet people from all over the world who are interested in the same trade.”
We are incredibly proud to see a former DCC student representing Ireland on the world stage and showcasing the talent, dedication and skill developed through their vocational career. We, and his former teachers especially, are very proud of him!
Congratulations Darragh, an incredible achievement!
