The Week in Sport – 28 September–2 October
After Monday’s day off, our teams were straight back into action on Tuesday as Ballymastone played host to a camogie and soccer double-header. It proved to be a very successful afternoon for DCC, with both teams battling hard and coming away with victories.
Our Senior Girls Soccer team secured an excellent 4–2 victory over Skerries, booking their place in Round 2 of the Leinster Senior Cup. The girls showed great determination throughout the game, with Hall finding the net twice, while Browne and Zaidan also got on the scoresheet. It was a strong all-round team performance, with the girls showing plenty of attacking quality and composure to see out the game and progress in the competition. A fantastic result and a great reward for the team’s hard work.
There was also plenty to celebrate on the camogie pitch, as our team came away with a hard-earned victory over Swords. Goals from Zoe and Alannah proved vital as DCC battled their way to victory. The team showed excellent determination throughout and worked hard for each other to secure another positive result. Two games, two wins made for a brilliant afternoon of sport in Ballymastone.
Our Junior hurlers got their championship campaign off to a winning start on Thursday, recording an impressive six-point victory over Grange CC in St. Pats.
It was a sublime performance from a very young DCC team, with students from 2nd, 3rd and 4th Year all making valuable contributions. Despite their youth, the team showed excellent composure, skill and determination throughout to come away with a well-deserved victory. A particular well done to Ben, Noah, Harry and Adam, who all put in excellent performances and played a key role in helping the team secure their opening-round victory.
Friday morning saw our Senior Men’s Football team back in action in Ballymastone, and they produced an outstanding 8–0 victory over Hansfield to secure their place in Round 2 of the Leinster Senior Cup.
DCC made the perfect start, with early goals from Aidan and Anthony setting the tone for the morning. From there, the team continued to dominate, with Liam pulling the strings throughout and helping drive the team forward.
An excellent all-round performance saw DCC cruise to an impressive 8–0 win and progress to the next round of the competition.
It was a brilliant way to finish the week. Well done to all of the students who represented DCC this week and to the staff who continue to support our teams across all sporting activities.
