The Week in Sport – 21–25 September

It was another busy week of sporting action in DCC, with our students representing the school across Gaelic football and hockey. There were some challenging results, but plenty of positive performances and important experience gained as our teams continue their respective campaigns.

Senior Gaelic Football – Leinster League

Our Senior Gaelic footballers’ Leinster League campaign came to an end on Monday following a difficult result against St Joseph’s from Drogheda.

While the scoreline was disappointing, the lads came up against an excellent St Joseph’s side who demonstrated the quality that has seen them compete at a very high level. Their strength was highlighted by the fact that they narrowly lost by just two points to last year’s All-Ireland champions.

Our players can take plenty from the experience and should keep their heads up as they now turn their attention to the Dublin Championship. With three group games ahead, the team will be looking to build on last year’s success and begin their campaign with the aim of going back-to-back Dublin champions.

There is plenty still to play for, and we look forward to seeing the lads back in action in the coming weeks.

Hockey

Our senior hockey team were in action on Monday, with a fantastic win. Unfortunatley there was no possibility of journalists to attend this fixture.

Senior LGFA

Our Senior LGFA team faced Gaelcholáiste Reachrann on Thursday in a competitive encounter.

DCC made a strong start to the game and showed plenty of attacking intent, with Erin and Niamh both finding the net to put our side on the scoresheet.

Despite the positive opening, Gaelcholáiste Reachrann ultimately came out on top. The result doesn’t take away from the effort shown by the team, who continued to battle throughout the game against a strong opposition.

The team will now look to take the positives from the performance and regroup ahead of their next fixture.

Well done to all of our students who represented DCC this week, and thank you to the staff and coaches who continue to support our teams throughout the school year
